2013: near in the distance
For the first time in the history of the Network Performing Arts Production Workshop, a performance in two full-length parts took place. Two different transmission technologies were used to realize this event: LoLa for the concert and UltraGrid for the dance performance.
Concert: Vienna ⇔ Trieste
Franz Hautzinger - Trumpet; Martin Brandlmayr - Drums; Martin Siewert - Guitars, Lap & Pedal Steel, Electronics; Dieb13 - Turntables
Alliance Quartett Wien: Marko Radonic - Violin; Armando Toledo - Violin; Natalia Binkowska - Viola; Johanna Kotschy - Violoncello
Eight excellent musicians interacted with each other live in Trieste/Italy and Vienna/Austria. In Vienna, the event took place in the Joseph Haydn Concert Hall at mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In Trieste, the event took place at Conservatorio G. Tartini. Franz Hautzinger wrote a graphical score for 4 strings for this production. This score was further developed by the musicians during rehearsal. For the multi-site concert, it was crucial to minimize the network latencies as much as possible, to an imperceptible level. This was achieved by using LoLa for the transmission.
Dance Performance: Vienna ⇔ Barcelona
In their work, the dance company and platform Kònic thtr (Rosa Sánchez & Alain Baumann) focuses on the integration of art, new technologies and science. Together with the Austrian dancer and performer Dominik Grünbühel and the Spanish dancer Victoria Macarte they developed a new performance which was transmitted via the UltraGrid software. Latencies were used on purpose, and the thusly transmitted images were visualized interactively and live.
